Van Bremen Wins Third A-main This Season
MVB Racing posted Sunday March 28, 2010.
Mike Van Bremen left nothing behind in his bid to win the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series with the final round held last night (March 27) at Ballarat’s Redline Speedway.
‘The Flying Dutchman’ won the 30-lap final, but it was not enough to be the overall winner of the Eureka Series, falling 47-points short of John Vogels in an enthralling Grand Final event.
Leading into the last round Van Bremen was 71-points behind and after the first round of qualifying heats he had reduced that by 20 points with a strong heat race win in a promising start.
In Van Bremen’s second heat he finished in fifth place after starting from position eight, however Vogels posted similar results in his two heats so the margin in points between the two stayed in the 70s prior to the top six shootout.
“We had nothing to lose on the night so we gave it everything. In the heats we won a race and moved forward in the other, however Vogels posted some similar results so I didn’t gain points on him after the two qualifying heat races,” said ‘MVB’.
The V6 Action Alliance was sixth highest qualifier and in a big effort set the second fastest time around Redline Speedway in the shootout to cement his starting spot for the final on the front row.
“We knew the top six shootout was important, we set a good time and got the front row start, so effectively we passed five cars before the final started. What gave us a glimmer of hope to win the series as well was that Johnny (Vogels) was starting from sixth position in the final,” said Van Bremen.
Both Van Bremen and Vogels understood before the A-Main where they had to finish to win the Eureka Series, Van Bremen had to finish around eight spots ahead of Vogels.
All Van Bremen could control was the way he raced the 30-laps and his start alongside pole sitter Jamie Veal was impressive.
“It was extremely important I won the start against Jamie Veal so I could look at leading and winning the A-Main. I was aggressive and the Redline track helped as I got great car speed out of turn two which gave me the upper hand,” said Van Bremen.
Early in the race Vogels was placed around that sixth position, which gave the MVB Racing team hope as Van Bremen grinded down the laps out in front.
In the end Vogels finished in fourth place, while Van Bremen accepted the chequered flag in first position for his third A-Main win of the Eureka Series this season.
“Johnny raced straight up to me on the warm down laps and we congratulated each other, he has been so consistent this season and well done to him and his team for winning the championship,” said Van Bremen.
On reflection of Van Bremen’s Eureka Garages and Sheds Series campaign, it had been a stellar season, winning three A-Main events. Most memorable, the opening round at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, his maiden feature win at the venue in 15 years of racing.
“I honestly believe it is the best season I’ve had, winning A-Main races and being very consistent with podium results. It just shows how tough it is to win a series. I walk away knowing we gave it our best shot and had fun doing it,” said Van Bremen.
On Good Friday Van Bremen will be in action for the opening leg of the Easter Trail at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway with the plan to do well and finish inside the top three of the Avalon Raceway track championship.
