Van Bremen Sets Up Exciting End To Eureka Series
MVB Racing posted Sunday March 21, 2010.

The Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series will be firmly on Mike Van Bremen’s mind this week with a second placed result last night (March 20) at Moama’s Heartland Raceway reducing the margin to 71-points between he and series leader John Vogels with the final round looming at Ballarat’s Redline Speedway.

Prior to the round 11 event at Heartland Raceway Van Bremen was 125-points behind the series lead in second position and a gutsy runner up result now has him in striking distance for the $10,000 to win Eureka Series.

A less than impressive result from Van Bremen at Heartland Raceway would have more than likely made the series impossible to win, but ‘The Flying Dutchman’ rallied to keep his hopes alive with some strong heat results setting up a birth at the front of the 30-lap final.

“The grid draws for the heats saw me draw two mid pack starting positions and I was confident enough with that, because Heartland Raceway is a big track and there is plenty of opportunity to pick off cars and make up positions,” said Van Bremen.

Make up positions he did, in the opening heat Van Bremen started fifth to finish in fourth place, while in his second heat the Action Alliance V6 finished in second after starting sixth on the grid.

The results had Van Bremen placed third in qualifying points, but he was unable to make up further ground in the top six shootout, setting the third quickest time behind Jamie Veal and Grant Anderson.

Starting from the inside of the second row for Van Bremen had him well placed for a strong result, but his mindset quickly changed when he lost multiple positions in the opening laps.

“I got off to an ordinary start and ended up being seventh or eighth on the racetrack, I honestly thought my race was done and dusted right there.

“I knew Johnny Vogels was near me as well, so I thought it would be a case of finishing around tenth and not making up any serious ground in the series points,” said Van Bremen.

In a bizarre running A-Main, where the top handful of drivers appeared to be continually in and around lap traffic, Van Bremen fought back and found himself in second position, although he was not sure at the time.

“I got past Charles Hunter and I knew he was running a good race, but truthfully I didn’t know if I was second or third on the racetrack, I just kept trying to pass cars.

“The result was a relief in the end, considering where we found ourselves we fought back quite strongly and the car was great in the second half of the race,” said Van Bremen.

Straight after the A-Main, Van Bremen announced on the podium presentations “bring on Redline” in what is promising to be a thrilling ending to the Eureka Series.

“It is exciting, I’m sure Johnny Vogels and also Jamie Veal are looking forward to getting out to Redline on Saturday night. There is a lot at stake. Myself and Jamie have nothing to lose in trying to chase down Johnny so I’m looking forward to it,” said Van Bremen.
