Van Bremen Makes It A Three Way Battle For Eureka Series
MVB Racing posted Sunday February 28, 2010.

After a month break, Mike Van Bremen returned to the racetrack last night (February 27) to contest the eighth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series at Hamilton’s Western Speedway with a fighting result keeping him in touch with the series top three.

Over the month of March, Van Bremen will be in action right every weekend contesting the final half of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series. Prior to last night’s round, Van Bremen was placed third in the series and 202 points behind the lead.

In cool weather conditions, the pace was on early at Western Speedway and Van Bremen finished third and fifth in the qualifying heat races.

“The track was probably too good early on and it made it hard to make up ground, we only made up one position in the heats but it was enough to qualify for the final,” said Van Bremen.

The Action Alliance V6 qualified in position ten for the 30-lap final, with other series contenders John Vogels and Jamie Veal coming via the B-Main.

Track conditions suited ‘The Flying Dutchman’ as he set about passing cars, making up ground to eventually finish in fifth place.

Van Bremen was one of the main drivers to watch, having a race long dual with Rod Matthews while sneaking up on a possible podium result.

“Rod Matthews and I had a good battle, we moved through the field and some drivers behind us also tried to make some passing moves. If you had the car setup well, the track was quite nice as there was a highline if you were willing to use it.

“At one stage I came up on the back of Glen Sutherland and Ryan Davis, they were battling for the podium position but unfortunately I was unable to pass them,” said Van Bremen.

The A-Main was quite similar to last year at Hamilton for Van Bremen, where he started from ninth and finished third.

“It was a very similar evening of racing to last year for me, unfortunately we are just starting to far back to challenge for the win,” MVB said.

The fifth place result now has Van Bremen 121 points behind the Eureka Series lead, with round nine at Simpson Speedway on Saturday night (March 6) and Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Sunday night (March 7).
