Hot Horsham For Mvb
MVB Racing posted Sunday January 10, 2010.

Temperatures in the mid 40 degrees greeted Lilydale’s Mike Van Bremen at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway last night (January 9) for the sixth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series.

Coming off an A-Main win at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway in round five on Boxing Day, Van Bremen was second placed in the series and just 14-points behind the lead at the halfway point of the competition.

The opening heat of the night for Van Bremen was arguably one of the most important qualifying races of the season for the sheer fact of starting alongside series leader John Vogels on the second row.

Results did not go Van Bremen’s way in either heat race, slipping back to fifth in the first event which was then followed up by a fourth placing after starting from sixth position in the second heat.

Van Bremen qualified on the front row of the last chance B-Main alongside Nick Lacey. Ironically, this was the same front row pairing for the opening round of the Eureka Series for the A-Main event, which Van Bremen went on to win back in November at Avalon Raceway.

The Action Alliance V#6 Maxim got the job done in the B-Main, winning comfortably and transferring to the reduced 25-lap A-Main event.

Starting from position 13 for the main show, Van Bremen made up one position on a track not conducive to passing to finish a distant 12th.

“Unfortunately the track wasn’t favourable to passing cars, basically unless I ditched someone or they made a mistake, I wasn’t going to get by anyone.

“Everyone was running the pole line as the track was very black and tyre wear was an issue. If you didn’t start off the front in any race, it was going to be hard to make ground,” said Van Bremen.

In the oppressive heat, Van Bremen was quick to thank his hard working crew for preparing the car throughout the night.

“Condition’s weren’t easy for anyone, us drivers, crews, officials and the spectators," Van Bremen said.

For the last four years, the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series has held a round in early January at Blue Ribbon Raceway, however Van Bremen would like it to be shifted to another time of the season.

“Horsham can produce some good racing, but the nature of the track is it can’t take direct hot sun light well, majority of tracks can’t, particularly when it’s above 40 degrees.

"I know I would love to see the round shifted to either the start or end of season, to give us drivers a better chance of putting on a show for the Horsham crowd,” Van Bremen recommended.

This Saturday night (January 16) Van Bremen will head to Moama’s Heartland Raceway for the seventh round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, 158 points behind the series lead in second place.

“I’m really looking forward to Moama, hopefully it’s a racy track like the end of last season and because of the size of the track, it will be entertaining,” said Van Bremen.
