Van Bremen At His Best For Second Feature Win This Season
MVB Racing posted Sunday December 27, 2009.
After losing the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series lead earlier this month, Mike Van Bremen fought back in splendid fashion last night (December 26) to win a thrilling 30-lap A-Main in the fifth round of the Victorian based Sprintcar domestic series.
Heading into this season, Van Bremen, a two time winner of the SRA Series, had yet to win an A-Main in fifteen seasons at the Geelong venue. Earlier this season Van Bremen had Avalon rocking with his first win and last night produced one of his best drives to win convincingly.
“Going back to round one I remember being incredibly nervous throughout the race because I’ve never won at Avalon and it showed in my driving. This time around I wasn’t nervous, with 12 laps to go I treated it as a heat race and with three laps to go it was like a dash,” said Van Bremen.
In one of the best A-Main races seen at Avalon Raceway, Van Bremen started alongside long time friend and on track rival Matthew Reed on the front row.
Van Bremen won the start from pole position and sped away to lead the field into lapped traffic, where Reed attacked Van Bremen for the lead. ‘The Flying Dutchman’ fought back on the inside to regain the lead in an exciting dual.
With the track in excellent shape, Van Bremen was able to weave his way through lapped traffic and hold out Reed. With three laps to go, Reed stopped in turn two and was forced to the rear, but this elevated a new challenger for Van Bremen, series opponent John Vogels.
“It wasn’t getting any easier even with Reed away from me, Johnny (Vogels) has been in great form this season and it looks like us two will fight it out for the second half of the Eureka Series which will be entertaining,” said Van Bremen.
In the final three laps Van Bremen did nothing wrong on the way to victory, where as earlier in the year he drove cautiously, admitting he was not going to do that again.
“I was basically in the same scenario earlier this season on the restart and drove with caution on the pole line, which nearly cost me the win. This time, I changed nothing and raced hard until I saw the chequered flag wave.
“It’s great to be in this sort of form at the moment, the car feels excellent and we have a bit of confidence, which helps with everything,” said Van Bremen.
With Vogels finishing right behind Van Bremen, the Action Alliance V6 remains in second position and only 14 points behind Vogels in the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series which will resume on January 9 at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway before heading to Moama’s Heartland Raceway on January 16.
In the meantime, MVB Racing will return to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Wednesday night (December 30) to contest World Series Sprintcars.
“We can’t wait to race against some of the best drivers in the world, the nomination list looks very strong and if we can make an impression we will be happy,” said Van Bremen.
