Van Bremen On The Pace For Season Start
MVB Racing posted Sunday October 19, 2008.
“The Flying Dutchman” Mike Van Bremen has started the 2008-2009 racing season with a fast paced result at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway last weekend in the opening round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series which has given him a good foundation for his 14th season.
Van Bremen is a household name in Victorian Sprintcar racing and with the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria announcing prior to the season a $28,500 prize pool for the Eureka Series, it has given the MVB Racing team renewed enthusiasm to go one better then they did last season.
The opening round of the Eureka Series was held at Avalon Raceway on October 11 in front of a packed crowd and the V#6 Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol Maxim was on the pace.
Van Bremen qualified fourth on points after two heat races, but struggled in the top six time trial posting the least quickest time which had him starting from the awkward position of sixth on the grid.
“I wasn’t happy with my time trial effort in the top six, I had a good chance to move forward on the grid but didn’t take that opportunity. Starting from sixth on the grid can be awkward,” admitted MVB.
The 30-lap A-Main event for Van Bremen was a smooth run and he moved forward two positions to eventually finish fourth in a strong line up.
“The Flying Dutchman” was setting quick laps in clear air, but admitted he struggled to make an impact in lapped traffic.
“It was a solid hit out and I was happy to take fourth in the end, we were quick in clear air but not as sharp in lapped traffic. We had car speed to match Matty Reed (third place), but he was sharper in the lapped traffic.
“Matty has race fitness from his recent American trip, we’ll be better for the run and I’m looking forward to the next round at Heartland Raceway,” said Van Bremen.
Not only will the MVB Racing team be in attendance for the entirety of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, but they also plan to compete in a handful of interstate events and blue ribbon races throughout Victoria.
The next racing meeting for the Lilydale driver will be at Adelaide’s Speedway City on November 1 for the Australian Sprintcar Masters, which will attract some of the countries best drivers.
“We are hopeful of racing in Adelaide for the Sprintcar Masters which is always a tough event and if we do well it will give us a lot of confidence,” he said.
On a local front, Van Bremen will be in action at Moama’s Heartland Raceway on November 8 for the second round of the Eureka Series, which he is currently placed fourth in.
Supporting the MVB Racing team for 2008-2009 are Action Blast Cleaning, CSR Methanol, Speedway Motors and National Rod Ends.
