Van Bremen Moves To Second In Eureka Series
MVB Racing posted Monday January 14, 2008.

Perennial SRA racer Mike Van Bremen has given his chances of winning a third SRA Series Championship a boost by finishing fourth in the fifth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series on Saturday night (Jan 12) at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway.

Van Bremen was placed fourth on the overall series points ladder leading into Saturday night’s race meeting and with his strong result he has now jumped to second place – only 40 points behind leader Matthew Reed.

“It was important for me to have a big night collecting points and we did that. For a couple of the guys at the top of the table they had dirty nights, such as Troy Little who was leading the series and blew a motor early on, so that helped our cause of moving up the points table,” Van Bremen said.

‘The Flying Dutchman’ from Lilydale set up his night in the opening heat race where he finished first after starting from fourth position.

The V#6 Action Blast Cleaning Maxim pilot then cemented himself into the top six pole shuffle with a third place in his final heat race.

Van Bremen, who was second highest on points after the heats, squared off with South Australian Steven Lines in the pole shuffle for a front row start. Lines won the battle and Van Bremen started the feature from third position.

Early on, Van Bremen challenged for the race lead as he sat in second position, but as the race unfolded on a track not encouraging passing, a couple of self made errors forced Van Bremen back to fourth.

“Unfortunately a couple of errors from myself cost me a podium result or better. It was hard to pass, so I sat on the tail of the top three for a fair bit of the race hoping they would make a mistake, which they didn’t,” Van Bremen said.

The race ended in dramatic circumstances, when the white flag failed to be dropped to signify one lap remaining. In the end, the race went briefly overtime before a yellow light stoppage occurred and the chequered flag was waved.

Overall, Van Bremen was pleased with the night and in particular, moving to second in the series.

“The car was good and we were pretty much on the pace all night. We are in good shape for this Saturday night at Avalon Raceway,” Van Bremen said.

This Saturday night (Jan 19) is the rescheduled round three event at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, which doubles as the Fireball Derby.

On January 23, a Wednesday night, Van Bremen will also race in the President’s Cup at Avalon.

Once again Van Bremen and his loyal bunch of Avalon Raceway fans will be asking the question: Can MVB record his first A-Main win at the Lara venue where he has been racing for 13 years?
