Mixed Results For Van Bremen In Local Wss Rounds
MVB Racing posted Thursday January 3, 2008.

The Action Blast Cleaning V#6 Maxim pilot Mike Van Bremen was up against the Wanless World Series Sprintcars stars on December 30 at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway and January 1 at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium and he finished with mixed results.

Fresh from a podium result on Boxing Night at Avalon Raceway in the fourth round of the local Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprint Series, the MVB Racing team was keenly anticipating a solid result on home turf at Avalon Raceway against the touring WSS drivers.

As expected, the competition was tough and Van Bremen struggled in his heat racing with results of second and third after setting the 26th quickest time in time trials which got him as far as the B-Main where he was unable to transfer to the main event.

“It was disappointing not to transfer into the final, we got caught out with the track conditions and our set up. We went into the meeting reasonably confident, but unfortunately we struggled,” said Van Bremen.

On New Year’s Day the team headed to Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool and Van Bremen’s attitude was simple, saying before the meeting: “We can only improve.”

Improve he did, with an A-Main start and an eventual 12th finishing result.

It was the usual quick Premier Speedway track and Van Bremen recorded heat results of a fourth and and second after setting the 19th quickest time. He once again found himself in the B-Main and finished fourth.

Leading into the final, ‘The Flying Dutchman’ was pleased with his car speed and was confident of improving his position in the 35-lap main event.

It was a testing race for Van Bremen and like many of the local drivers, the further race distance compared to the domestic finals caught some out towards the end.

“I was reasonably happy to finish 12th. I thought we were pretty good all night; there was nothing wrong with our car speed.

“The final was a competitive race and Warrnambool is always a very physical race track. It was a workout towards the end,” said Mike.

Van Bremen is a former World Series Sprintcars contracted driver himself and he admitted it was a mixed campaign against some of the worlds finest drivers.

“It would have been nice to have made the final at Avalon, but that’s World Series for you, if you’re not on your game you won’t get very far,” he said.

The month of January will be a busy one for MVB Racing, with the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series heading to Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway on January 12, followed by Avalon Raceway on January 19.

The big boys will then be back in town for the President’s Cup on January 23, followed by the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic on the Australia Day long weekend at Warrnambool Sungold Stadium.

Supporting the MVB Racing team for 2007-2008 are Action Blast Cleaning, CSR Methanol, Speedway Motors and National Rod Ends.
