Van Bremen Finishes Second In Eureka Series Overall
MVB Racing posted Monday March 26, 2007.
After a testing 12-round Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprintcar Series, ‘The Flying Dutchman’ Mike Van Bremen has come away with a respectable second position in the overall points of the Victorian domestic Sprintcar Racing Association Series.
The final round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series was held on Saturday night (March 24) at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium-Premier Speedway and although it was impossible for Van Bremen to win the series, he was keen to secure the next best – second.
Fresh from a feature race win in the previous round at Gippsland’s Nyora Speedbowl, Van Bremen was placed in second on points ahead of third placed Matthew Reed by 201 points.
By the end of Saturday night, Van Bremen held off Reed by just 67 points after an unlucky A-Main.
“It’s been an up and down year for me, the first half of the season was nothing special, we had some trouble dialling into the Maxim Chassis after using a Foster for a decade,” said Van Bremen.
“The last half of the series was an improvement, we started to get on the pace and have realistic chances of victory. So I’m pretty happy to be able to hold onto second in the series, no-one was going to beat Johnny Vogels and I would like to extend my congratulations to him on winning his third series,” he added.
On Saturday night, Van Bremen was racing for a top five result in the 25-lap feature race until he had an incident with Vogels in turn two when they were fighting for sixth position.
Van Bremen has been racing with a bent and dinted top wing in recent weeks after the now infamous push truck incident at the Great Southern Showdown at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway and after the coming together with Vogels at Warrnambool, the wing copped more of a belting.
Fortunately Van Bremen was able to restart from the rear and in the end claim 13th position, which was enough to lock him into second position in the overall points.
The MVB Racing Team are now looking forward to having a well deserved weekend off after a tough schedule throughout the past month before they tackle the Good Friday Avalon Raceway and Easter Sunday Sungold Stadium-Premier Speedway legs of the Easter Trail.
“At this stage we won’t be competing on Easter Saturday at Mt Gambier, but we will definitely give it a crack on Good Friday at Avalon Raceway and the Sunday down at Warrnambool.
“It’s been a while since I’ve raced against guys like Max Dumesny and hopefully we can get a couple of top ten results to finish the season on a high,” Van Bremen said.
