Flying Dutchman Limps Home At Moama
MVB Racing posted Monday March 5, 2007.

Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series contender Mike Van Bremen wanted to start the month of March, where six rounds of the SRA Series will be staged, in the best possible fashion on Saturday night (March 3) at Moama’s Heartland Raceway. After a challenging A-Main event, ‘The Flying Dutchman’ finished sixth in a car that would have been more suited in a demolition derby event.

“The car wasn’t in the greatest condition at the end of the night,” said Van Bremen, continuing, “We were very lucky to finish the A-Main in the end and get some vital points to stay in the top four heading into the two rounds of the series this weekend at Avalon and Simpson.”

The opening heat race of the night at Heartland Raceway saw plenty of carnage, which Van Bremen was lucky to avoid.

One hairy moment for the V#6 Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol Maxim came when Ian Thomsen rolled on the back straight. Van Bremen was lucky not to get upside down when he bounced his way down the back straight.

“We were quite lucky in that incident, I thought I was going to get upside down and that would have been a shocking start to the night. Fortunately we didn’t and I was able to race the heat and finish third,” explained the Lilydale Company Director.

In the second heat, Van Bremen was also able to secure third place.

For the 25-lap A Main event, Van Bremen started alongside eventual race winner Steven Lines in eighth position. It was a frustrating feature event for ‘MVB’, with a couple of noticeable incidents putting large dints in the end result for the night.

It was a tough scrap to the finish, particularly when the steering was hurt on the Action Blast Cleaning V#6 entry when Van Bremen tried to avoid a spinning car, only to bump the wall.

With two laps remaining on the single file restart, things did not get much better for Van Bremen, as he explains: “Everyone was banging one another, I slammed into someone and someone slammed into me. The car limped home for sixth, in the end I was lucky to even finish.”

Van Bremen said the car resembled a demolition derby vehicle, but everything will be straightened up before the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series double header this weekend at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway (March 10) and Simpson Speedway (March 11).

“We are raring to go for this weekend, currently we are still placed fourth in the series and we would love to be in the top three this time next week,” said Mike.

The Avalon Raceway meeting also doubles as the Great Southern Showdown, with $5000 to the feature event winner. The MVB Racing Team are certainly due for A Main victory.

“We have never won an A Main at Avalon, maybe this Saturday night is the night?” grinned Van Bremen.
