Consistency For Mvb In Sra Eureka Double Header
MVB Racing posted Thursday December 28, 2006.
The Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprint Series double header at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Boxing Day and Gippsland’s Nyora Speedbowl last night (December 27) saw Mike Van Bremen secure some much needed consistency aboard the Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol V#6 Maxim. With representatives from Action Blast Cleaning enjoying the corporate facilities at Avalon Raceway and watching the MVB Racing team in action on Boxing Day, Mike was keen to make amends from his effort just 10-days prior where he qualified for the C-Main at the Lara venue.
“We were far from happy with our December 16 meeting at Avalon, although a fair bit of misfortune seen us qualify for the C Main. On Boxing Day we wanted to make up for that and we did, with out best result of the season so far,” said ‘The Flying Dutchman’.
Van Bremen was one of the fastest cars at Avalon Raceway on Boxing Night recently and after two heats, which included a race win and a fifth place after starting his final heat from the rear, Van Bremen qualified the Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol V#6 Maxim out of position three for the 25-lap main event.
Although Van Bremen has won two SRA Series Championships in his career, a feature race has still alluded the Lilydale based Company Director at Avalon Raceway. With the track producing multiple lanes for passing, the MVB Racing team were confident of getting the Maxim into first position.
“The car was on song, the track was pretty good and with the sponsors watching on we wanted a win and starting the final from third position it was on the cards,” said Van Bremen, adding; “However Matty Reed and Darren Mollenoyux were ahead, so it was never going to be easy.”
As the race unfolded, Van Bremen got by Mollenoyux for second and as the lapped traffic closed in, Reed was on the radar but unfortunately there were not enough laps to reel him in and the MVB Racing team had to settle for what was a happy second placing.
The following evening (December 27), round six of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series was staged at Nyora Speedbowl.
“Nyora is a tight bullring and it was important for us to do well there to back up the Avalon result and in the end, we salvaged a result that we could consider lucky,” Mike said.
Heat racing proved difficult, but Van Bremen got through unscathed with just one poor heat in the three rounds of qualifying races to set himself up for a seventh position start on the A-Main grid.
On the opening lap in turn four the Lilydale flyer made contact with another car, which had a half lose and this forced Van Bremen to spin and be sent to the rear. From here for the remainder of the race, it was all about experimenting with a way to get through the field.
“I thought we would just try and salvage what we could so I tried the highline and the low line of the racetrack and just experimented to try and get my way through the field,” MVB said, continuing; “In the end we were placed fifth which was a lot a better then it could have been.”
With a second and fifth placing over the two-night Eureka Garages and Sheds Series stanza at Avalon and Nyora, the MVB Racing team continued to learn with more knowledge of the Maxim Chassis being one of the main gains.
“We got lots of laps in the two nights and now that we are not doing World Series Sprintcars we don’t do as many races, so it was good to race over two nights and get some laps together and more importantly secure some consistent results for the SRA Championship,” Van Bremen said.
The next meeting for the popular Victorian team will be on Saturday night (December 30) against the WSS stars at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway. On New Years Day the team will head to Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium-Premier Speedway to also contest against WSS.
Victorian fans are urged to get behind ‘The Flying Dutchman’ in these big events.
