ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS: SAYS MVB
MVB Racing posted Monday December 18, 2006.

‘The Flying Dutchman’ Mike Van Bremen had “one of those nights” behind the wheel of the Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol v6 Maxim at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Saturday night (December 16) in the fourth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Super Sprint Series.

The MVB Racing team set themselves high expectations for the Fireball Derby, which attracted a classy line up of 42 cars. However, Van Bremen failed to make it out for the main events after suffering rear end damage in his last qualifying heat.

“We bent the rear arms and basically knocked the rear end apart in an incident in heat two, we had to pull it all apart and unfortunately we ran out of time to fix it,” said Mike.

After a genuinely good start in heat one, where Van Bremen raced from seventh to fourth, a top two result was the aim in the last qualifying heat to achieve a strong starting position in the A-Main. Starting from fourth position and with a positive mind set, a win was on the agenda for Van Bremen but that was ruled out when he spun on his own terms.

Wanting to salvage some positions on the restart, Van Bremen attempted to work his way through the field only for the Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol v6 Maxim to crash into a spinning Carl Ludeman, with this incident effectively ending his night.

“Unfortunately in the second heat I spun myself and restarted from the rear. Ludeman then spun and I had nowhere to go and drilled him with the side of my car, which knocked the rear end about,” said Van Bremen.

The MVB Racing team had hopes of possibly ‘running the alphabet’ to make the A-Main, but they were soon dashed, as he explains; “I was in the C-Main, which they called up quickly and for us we couldn’t repair the car in time, as it turns out the C-Main was a non-event anyway after a big crash on the start.”

Saturday night’s event attracted one of the strongest fields for a Eureka Garages and Sheds Series event and, as Van Bremen explains, if you do not do well in the qualifying heat races it is a tough campaign to make the A-Main.

“If you drop a heat or do badly, you are going to be a fair way behind in the B and also C Mains. Just ask Ryan Farrell, Luke Dillon and Brett Milburn who all failed to make the final because they had bad luck and their results weren’t great in the heats, just like myself,” said Van Bremen.

The MVB Racing outfit will examine the rear end damage more closely on the Maxim leading up to Boxing Day, the fifth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series, with the following night the sixth round at Gippsland’s Nyora Raceway.

Van Bremen has earmarked these two rounds as vital in terms of staying in touch with the series leader, John Vogels.

“I’ve now dropped back to fourth in the series and the next two rounds are very important for all concerned in the points race. If Johnny Vogels has another couple of good nights, which in the form he is, he will, we will be struggling in reeling him in,” said Van Bremen.

“It will be really nice if we can string a good couple of nights together at Avalon and Nyora. We need some consistency, as when I won my two SRA Series Championships, consistency was the key and that’s what we want to start achieving, some consistent results night after night,” he added.

Plans are also in place for MVB Racing to contest two rounds of the Proton World Series Sprintcars Jumbuck Speedweek at Avalon Raceway on December 30 and New Years Day at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium-Premier Speedway.
