MVB SHOWS HIS PACE AT WSS MOAMA
MVB Racing posted Tuesday December 5, 2006.
Victorian favourite Mike Van Bremen had his Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol V#6 Maxim on a rail at times on Saturday night (December 2) in the fifth round of World Series Sprintcars at Moama’s Heartland Raceway. Although the result of 11th does not indicate it, Van Bremen was clearly one of the fastest in the feature when he was dicing for a podium result.
Van Bremen started the A-Main from sixth position and he quickly moved into third as he used the highline to great advantage. ‘The Flying Dutchman’ had a superb dual with Garry Brazier, but unfortunately after the lengthy delay mid-race when Drew Kruck was taken to hospital, Van Bremen could not keep up his intensity.
The highline crumbled and the car set up of Van Bremen was less effective and he strained back to finished in 11th position, which in the end was a disappointing ending to a night that could have been greatly better.
“When the car was good, we were fast,” said Mike. “I was having some real tough, but clean racing in the final early on, but after the delay our set up just didn’t work and our results show that.
“We were far too good, far too early you could say. However we will learn from it and there were a lot more positives for us than negatives from the night,” added Van Bremen.
Early in the night, Van Bremen struggled with the Action Blast Cleaning / CSR Methanol V#6 Maxim in time trials and his opening heat, although the time trial result was a pleasant surprise.
“I was disappointed with my time trial effort, I thought I did some shocking laps,” stated Van Bremen. “I was all over the place in my two laps to be honest, but I was surprised that I set the 11th quickest time. I was expecting to be further back in the field.”
In the opening heat race, the MVB Racing team had the Maxim set up too tight and they only moved forward one position to finish sixth. The second heat race was a different story on the other hand, as Van Bremen stormed from eighth position to finish second.
The second heat result was the turning point of the night for Van Bremen, as he explains; “The car was just about perfect for my last heat race,” said Mike. “The highline was fantastic and we weaved our way through the field. The car was on a rail pretty much and it gave me some confidence leading into the dashes and final.”
Van Bremen began the B-Dash from pole position, but Grant Anderson lead him into the first turn and later on in the six lap event Max Dumesny got by ‘The Flying Dutchman’ and a third place result had to be settled for. This resulted in Van Bremen starting the feature event from sixth position on the grid.
The Lilydale flyer, a former World Series Sprintcars contracted driver, was one of the Victorian competitors is competing on the domestic scene in the SRA full time this season that mixed it with the national stars at Heartland Raceway.
“It was good to be back racing against the World Series guys,” said Mike. “It was also great to see the others that race in Victoria a fair bit such as Johnny Vogels and Grant Anderson mix it up the front and represent the Victorians well.”
The MVB Racing transporter will next be in the pits at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway for round four of the SRA Super Sprint Series, which doubles as the prestigious Fireball Derby event. Van Bremen is confident of a good showing and nothing less than a win will be the aim.
“We have had a few events under our belts now this season,” says Mike. “So we are hopeful of a win at Avalon. There will be a few big names there for the meeting as well, so it should be a good test for us.”
