Solid Masters Performance for MVB

After a positive debut at Avalon the week prior it was time for MVB Racing to head to Speedway City, South Australia for our first of many interstate trips for the season.

Adelaide greeted us with fine and hot conditions on Saturday, which would prove to be a major factor in track conditions as day turned to night.

Before we headed out for hot laps & time trials we knew we would be making some changes after hot laps as the track surface would begin to turn rather slick to which it did. Once the changes were made to the car, Mike took the V6 Foster onto the slick Speedway City to record his two flying time trial laps. Mike recorded a 12.64 which placed us 9th quick, wedged between fellow Victorian competitors Ian Lewis and Matthew Reed.

Mike was starting out of position 4 in his first Heat Race, on a race track that was getting increasingly slippery and slick. The first few laps certainly caught a few drivers out with a couple of spins and out of shape cars, which caused a couple of re-starts. Finally the race settled into a groove and Mike also found some nice rhythm to finish in 4th.

Keen to make some passes and earn some valuable points in his second Heat Race Mike was starting in position 3, but also had to be mindful of some heavy hitters that would be coming through the field like a hot knife through butter. One of those heavy hitters was to be Max Dumesny who latched onto the rear of the Action Blast Cleaning Sprintcar. For nearly half the race the ultra experienced Max tried nearly everything to get by Mike, whose car was getting looser each lap. Mike covered his racing lines excellently and managed to hold Max out to finish third. Boy we knew we had some serious work to do to tighten this race car up for the feature race!

Due to time restrictions the “Dash” was cancelled and also another sections feature race. The MVB Crew set about making numerous changes to the car. The 35 lap journey would (as always) come down to who dials their Sprintcar into the changing track conditions the best. When we thought we just about had what we thought would be spot on, the track got graded and watered. Although over 35 laps this would not last long!!

At long last Mike strapped in and headed out for the Feature Race starting out of position 10. The feature race quickly turned into a one lane race track with cars basically having to keep to the black racing line and three quarters of the way through the Feature Race one could have been forgiven to thinking that they were at the Drag Strip next door and not Speedway City as the track started to take rubber. This actually suited the Action Blast Cleaning / Foster as our right rear tyre was in great condition. As the race drew to a close the car was working well which gives us some great confidence coming into World Series this weekend in Queensland. Mike once again finished where he started (10th) on a track which lent very little to no passing for the majority of the night.
