MVB Racing

MVB Hooked up and dialing in…………
Deano posted Sunday October 30, 2005.

After many hours spent in the workshop over the winter break, the MVB Racing hauler was packed with Sprintcar and crew full of enthusiasm of what may be install for the upcoming season. Before getting to the track we dropped in to our newly welcomed sponsor at Shine Hand Carwash in Maribyrnong to enjoy some coffee and place the car on display. What a terrific way to enjoy the trip to Avalon Raceway as well as gaining some great exposure for Action Blast Cleaning, National Rod Ends, Quick Race Parts and CSR Methanol!

Once arriving at the track it was time to get down to business for our first race meeting of the season. Avalon prepared a track that certainly looked to be a very fast one and it definitely proved to be the case as the night wore on.

Mick had drawn starting position eleven in Heat 1 which had us starting off position 2 in our second Heat. After hot laps were completed the track was still very sloppy and after much discussion with wiley crew chief Dennis, we headed out for Heat 1. It was fairly tough going for all drivers on the greasy track and it took a few laps to settle into some kind rhythm. Mick managed to pass a few cars early in the heat race and crossed the chequered for a ninth finishing position. Not exactly a fantastic result, but at least the car was still in one piece.

With plenty of fierce competition in action tonight, the pressure was placed on crew and driver in our second qualifying heat race to pick up the all so important crucial qualifying points. After some “confusion” on the first attempt to get the race underway, we got a clean start on the second attempt. At long last we could find out exactly how the car felt on a sticky track that was coming in very nicely with each lap completed. To the pleasure of Mick and the crew the car looked great on the track and we managed to win our second heat race comfortably.

The crew was itching to find out where Mick had qualified once the heat races were completed and he had the car locked into starting position nine. At this stage of the night’s proceedings the C-main, B-main and time trials had been completed. One lap track records had been smashed and this was going to be one hell of a fast and hooked up A-main!

Time for the A-main to fire into action and the always tight and close charge into turn one and two, proved to be a sensational holeshot for us, when greeted by the judge for the first lap Mick had passed three cars!! Whilst Reed & Lewis battled it out at the pointy end of the stick Mick kept picking off cars (narrowly missing some as well) until he had the first three place getters in his sights. The longer the race wore on, the better the car got, but as is always the case when you’re not leading the race, Mick ran out of laps!

In summary MVB Racing are very pleased with our first outing under real race conditions and our fourth place on the night. Next week we’re heading off to Adelaide for the Sprintcar Masters before setting off to Queensland for the start of our World Series campaign.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Speedway, so make sure you come down to the pits say hi at the completion of the nights racing.

Catch you at the skids!
