Sprintcar Drivers ... Brave Or Insane?
Daniel Beard posted Friday November 12, 2004.
When you try to explain the art of Sprintcar racing to the uninitiated, you often get a bewildered gaze followed by the customary "Are these guys for real!"
I have often wondered exactly what our Sprintcar stars are? Brave or Insane?
Well recently at Bacchus Marsh, I realised they are in fact BOTH!
Not due to the fact that a Sprintcar driver has what is arguably one of the most dangerous hobbies known to man, or that a budget racer such as Mike Van Bremen spends every penny he earns, and then some on over expensive engine, wings, and tires ... and lets not comment on that brand new transporter!
But, more so that he is prepared to risk his new 2005 weapon by placing it in the hands of a wanna-be Sprintcar Superstar ( aka Media guy ) like ME!
Mike Van Bremen is one who knows the importance of sponsorship probably more than most. Recently signing a major sponsor in Action Blasting has meant a huge bonus to the years budget already.
Last weekend however, Mike went above and beyond by offering his valued sponsors the chance to enjoy the thrill of taking control of his race ready machine.
Knowing that this car was to head to the Masters the week later, with all new front end, steering box, rear end and all new panels was pretty much enough for this little black duck to say "I think Ill just get pushed around by the push ute thanks!"
The opportunity to actually start and lap a fully blown Sprintcar however was just too good to pass up, and after a few warm in laps, the adrenalin kicked in and this black duck felt like that little fella on the pond with his legs going around at a mile a minute.
After experiencing a bit of pace, the mind then reminded the right foot that this is a good car, and I will earn no friends by ending upside down and all bent out of shape.
So after a few laps, I steered the flamed red Vic #6 back to the pits with a huge grin on the face, and the want to run home and do some work for guys at MVB Racing, just to ensure I get another go next year.
I personally would like to thank Mike for the run, it was an awesome experience, and as a Sponsor it was more than we deserve in return.
Sprintcar World will continue to support MVB Racing, and we wish Mike all the best on his challenge to finish up the table on World Series Sprintcars this summer.

Hmmm, I could get used to this.. push a bit quicker Muscles! This is great ... wonder how Mike is feeling watching this!
