MVB Speedweek so far...........
MVB Racing posted Wednesday December 31, 2003.

Our first nights racing of the WSS Speedweek saw us competing in Adelaide on Boxing Day. The track was dry and dusty from the outset. We drew a late marble in the time trial lottery, and managed to set 19th quick time out of 31 cars present. The heats netted us a pleasing second and third place. This gave us enough points to start the A Dash out of position 6, in which we finished 6th. We started the A-Main from position 11. At the start of the race, the track was very slick and difficult to race on and got a lot worse by the end of the 35 lap final. For the duration of the race, we drove very conservatively and kept the car very straight in order to minimize tyre wear as this was always going to be a telling factor on this type of race surface. After 35 laps, many cars had blown tyres and had pulled infield, we managed to finish third and got our very first podium finish in WSS competition.

The next day saw us traveling to the Scenic Murray Bridge, a track that Team MVB had never seen before let alone raced on. We were the very last car to time trial and managed to set a respectable 15th quick time of the 34 cars present. A fifth and second place in our heats saw us qualify straight into the A Dash again, in which we finished fifth, which was also where we started. Before the A-Main, they had restored the track to a pristine racing surface. Having a position nine starting spot, gave us a good chance for another good result. The track was lightning quick and we were on pace with the leaders for the full race, which netted us a pleasing seventh place.

For the third consecutive day of the Speedweek, saw us on the road again, this time to Mount Gambier, SA. Our luck finally changed with the time trial lottery and we pulled an early marble. We were pleased to post ninth quick time of the 37 cars entered. The heat results were nothing spectacular, but a sixth and seventh finish saw us once again qualify straight into one of the dashes. We finished where we started in the dash, which was fifth place and that gave us a starting position in the A-Main of 10th. As much as every driver denies he is ever at fault, I am willing to admit that at the start of the A-Main, I screwed up! Entering turn one on lap one, we simply drove in too hard and partially spun before taking a violent flip. The car is always fixable, and most importantantly the driver escaped unharmed.

After spending the next day traveling home repairing the car and doing the normal maintenance, the whole team finally got a decent nights sleep. The next day 30/12/03, saw us compete at Avalon Raceway Geelong, for the fourth night of WSS Speedweek. Hot and windy conditions greeted the fourty one cars which competed in the time trials. We timed out of position 32 to post a very disappointing 29th quick time. This put us on the second row in both our heats. We ran third in our first heat, and a poor sixth in our second heat. With such a large field of sprintcars, this made things very hard for us. We started out of position 2 in the C-Main, and ran second. This started us out of 16 in the B-Main, which was a tough field of its own. The track by this stage was really average and not really being able to work on the cars between the C-Main and the B-Main, made things even tougher. It was never going to be easy from the back of the B. We finished 14th and failed to make the A-main.... The first time in this years WSS that we have failed to make the A-main :-(

Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully the new Year will great us with a good result for the final round of WSS Speedweek at Warrnambool.

Happy New Year Everyone !!!
